Mike Brown
Mike Brown

I believe this is Mike Brown and his 198.65 MPH O320-powered Cozy Mk III.

Stiletto
Bill Oertel and Stiletto

Is that Earl Haguewood with Bill Oertel and Stiletto (I'm bad with names)?  Stiletto is an IO360-powered Cozy 4-place with retractable gear and a 194.57 MPH "tour" cruise speed.

N821RP
Joe Dubner Taxiing N821RP

Yours truly (Joe Dubner) taxiing by in my O235 Long-EZ, the fastest (and only :-) O235 Long-EZ in the "tour".  My speed was 5 MPH slower than last year and I can only think it's due to the lack of O235 competition allowing me to listen to MP3s on the "tour" instead of tweaking the mixture for max power.

Pilot Briefing
Pilot Briefing

David Orr conducts the pre-tour pilot briefing.  If you're not a formation flyer, this will feel like a "sip from the firehose" but in truth, it's hard to do more than scratch the surface in 15 minutes.  This is the time to ask any last-minute questions (and admire the scenery or pick your nose.)

Formation on the Ground
Formation Lined Up on the Ground

Most of the aircraft in the "tour" are awaiting engine start and then taxi time.  The others are out sight to the left.  With regard to being in position, this is probably the best the formation looked during the entire event   :-(

Alas, I have no further aircraft pictures -- nothing to show the trail takeoff, formation rejoin, transition to line abreast, "tour" start, and individual aircraft finishing across the runway.  But we did all that (and then some).

Aikens Lodge
Aikens Lodge

This is the scene around the pool at Aiken's Lodge afterward.  You'd never know it by the blue sky in the picture but the buildups precluded many (most?) of us from flying to Bryce Canyon for lunch after the tour.  So all we could do was hang out at Aiken's and drink beer and talk airplanes.  Oh yeah, there was pizza too.  But don't feel sorry for us: perhaps next year we'll fly out to lunch or take a hike up those red-rock hills like we've done in the past.

Certificate of Speeding
My Speeding Ticket

Once again, Char Spencer not only organized the entire event but provided these kewl "Speeding Tickets" to all participants.  They were passed out to much fanfare at Nedra's where we had Tex-Mex dinner Sunday night.  T'would be nice if folks dropped a Thank You note or phone call to Char.

Been There, Done That, Got the T-Shirt

Here are some interesting pieces of trivia.  (Well, they're interesting to me <g>)

Reminder: another tour is coming up.  Mesquite (NV) on October 22.  Email me (or call Char) for details.
